Tips on Nursery Decorating. What I like And What I Don't

Posted by Michelle Henry on

As a mother of four boys and a designer of mostly what are considered luxury nursery's for the past 10 years, I enjoy nothing more than reading articles that I can share with my clients explaining that "yes" you can have all of the glitz and glam of custom bedding, window treatments etc....yet I still encourage especially to my first time Mommy's that having the basics is just as important as unicorns and rainbows and I reassure them that this is definitely something we can achieve. Now as far as #12 of this article that states leaving out the "cute crib sets" is a must,  I am all for supporting crib safety and I have designed an adorable new alternative to crib bumpers called "Bye-Bye Bumpers". I have tagged this post with a crib rail cover as well and both on a crib with a crib skirt are super fantastic together. I also have one more design tip that I like to suggest when created spaces for children and that is I don't feel you have to "pick a theme". I have always felt the baby was the theme for the nursery. Your baby is his or her own little human being and as they grow and their  personalities soar it is nice to build the theme into what they are actually doing and becoming. What toys they like, what books they love, the music they dance to and the time spent in that room for my boys was more  based upon how creative they could be in that space In other words I don't like to feel locked into something when I am designing anything!  I will write more thoughts on this and other topics in another post but for today I will keep this short and sweet! Enjoy!
